Eight Feasibility Studies Demonstrating the Potential of Solar Process Heat in the European Automotive Industry
Abstract
Solar process is an important part of future decarbonised heat supply systems but has not been able to meet the expectations of the market penetration so far. The Automotive industry is a world-wide leading industry sector with respect to research and technical innovation. Therefore, a large-scale implementation throughout this sector could initiate the breakthrough of the promising application of solar heat in industrial processes. To pave the way for solar process heat in the Automotive and suppliers’ industries, several case studies have been carried within the research project SolarAutomotive covering all relevant industrial heat sinks. Within this paper, an extract of results is presented, demonstrating the potential of this application to reduce the CO2-emissions by industrial heat supply. The technical collector potential detected in the presented case studies amounts for more than 11,000 m²br. At least, 2,500 m² have been confirmed to be implemented by the industrial partners. Another 4,200 m² is in internal discussion.
