Shadow Effect of Surrounding Buildings on BIPV System Performance
Abstract
The building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) system has recently become a hot research topic. In this study three main !actors"the position and height o! a building and the distance bet#een buildings--#ere thoroughly investigated as to their shado# e!!ect on BIPV system per!ormance in o!!ice buildings. $ simulation model #as made using &nergyPlus #hich #as validated #ith actual e(periment data !rom %'% laboratory that #as recently constructed in the vicinity o! )eoul 'orea !or the conduct o! various environment-!riendly e(periments including e(periments on BIPV system per!ormance. The e!!ect o! shado#s on BIPV po#er #as analy+ed through parametric studies. *irst generated BIPV po#er depending on shado#s decreased at the highest rate o! -., #hen the BIPV system #as located on the east side o! ad/acent buildings. )econd the generated BIPV po#er o! the base model building decreased at the rates o! 01, -2, and -., due to the shado#s o! ad/acent buildings #ith heights o! 01m 34m and 1.m. Third the generated BIPV po#er decreased by -2, 32, and 00, #hen the ad/acent buildings #ere -m 01m and 34m a#ay !rom the base model building respectively.
