Techno-economic Analysis of Solar Photovoltaics and Solar Thermal Energy Integration in a Chilean Brewery

Abstract

The objective of this work is to study the combined integration of a photovoltaic and solar thermal energy technologies into a small size brewery (270,000 liters of beer per month) in Chile. The brewery is located in the north of Chile where solar radiation is high, with a yearly energy of about 2460 kWhm-2 considering a 30° inclined plane. The main goal of this study is to perform a techno-economic analysis to integrate solar energy as a cost-effective solution for the company. Combined integration of both solar technologies has never been done in a brewery in Chile. The actual energetic demand of the plant (electricity, heating and cooling demand) has been measured through a monitoring campaign of one month. Simulations of the integration of both PV and solar thermal technologies will be performed. A techno-economic analysis of the best integration solution will also be presented.
