Optimal Sizing of Stand-Alone Hybrid Photovoltaic-Wind-Battery Energy System Using PSO
Abstract
An optimization of a photovoltaic-wind-battery hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) for a site located in the Northeast of Brazil is undertaken in the present paper. A yearlong of hourly measured wheatear and load profile data of the site were used and the chosen optimization method was Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The main goals of the study were to fulfil the electricity demand of the chosen site by designing an optimization problem based on the levelized cost of energy (LCE). The system configuration as a photovoltaic-wind-battery system were selected given the much favorable weather condition for solar and wind energy systems at the site. The results obtained so far show that the PSO could size the system accordingly the set of given constraints and equipment’s specifications minimizing the total cost. The next step is this work will be to consider the loss off power supply probability and tests of different sets of constraints and equipment. Key-words: HRES, PSO, LCE, optimization, photovoltaic-wind-battery.
