Triethylenglycol as Novel Heat Transfer Fluid for CPVT Collectors with Spectral Splitting

Abstract

This proposed paper describes investigations of Triethylenglycol (TEG) regarding its suitability for serving as a possible heat transfer fluid in concentrating PVT (CPVT) collectors with a requested operating temperature of 200°C. The performed analysis involves the mathematical description of temperature-dependent thermodynamic fluid properties, temperature stress and UV exposure tests. The main parameter for monitoring possible impacts of the stress tests is the spectral transmissivity of the fluid, as this is an essential property for a stable long-term operation of the considered CPVT Fresnel collector including Spectral Splitting. The results of this analysis are promising. TEG shows a boiling point of 280°C and meets the requirements in terms of spectral behavior in initial state.
