Performance Simulation and Monitoring Methodology of a Solar Cooling Installation in Aqaba, Jordan

Abstract

This work presents the results of the energy performance simulation of a solar cooling system installed in the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce office building in Jordan, as well as the monitoring results of its early operation. The main components of the system are the flat plate solar thermal collectors, the single-effect absorption chiller, the hot storage tanks and the cold storage tank. The results of the energy performance simulation as well as the calculated annual energy savings are extensively discussed. The simulations showed that the thermal energy produced by the collectors’ field is 131103 kWh/y, the cooling energy production is 79525 kWh/y and the auxiliary electricity consumption is 4979 kWh/y. The simulated solar cooling system can cover the 52.3% of the building’s cooling energy demand. Analytical description of the methodology for the monitoring system is also provided.
