Definition of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to Evaluate Innovative Storage Systems in Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) Plants
Abstract
Thermal energy storage is essential to provide dispatchability to CSP plants. The next challenge of such systems it to develop innovative systems that allow working at higher temperatures. In order to allow a better comparison of new concepts, KPIs need to be defined and validated. This paper defines KPIs for such innovative systems and then validates them against the commercially available two-tanks molten salts storage concept for a 100 MW net capacity CSP tower plant.
