Abstract

A new and cost-effective heating concept integrated in a prefabricated façade for renovation of multi-family-houses was investigated in the framework of the European project PLURAL through dynamic building and system simulations. The concept consists of a prefabricated insulated timber-frame façade containing the heating pipes of a low temperature system for space heating. After renovation, the building can be heated with these heating pipes through the old external walls. The simulation results show that such a system is able to ensure good thermal comfort of the flats and fulfill nZEB energy requirements. The control of the heating system needs optimization to increase PV self-consumption. Such a system can represent, under certain conditions, an ideal solution in case of renovation of flats in multi-family-houses.
