Falling Film Measurements Using High Speed Camera and High Speed Infra-Red Camera
Abstract
This work developed a non-intrusive technique to measure falling film thickness and film temperature simultaneously based on the image processing technique. A high speed camera and a high speed infra-red camera were used to record falling film formation over a horizontal plain tube at the rate of 10,000 fps by simultaneous triggering. The recorded images were processed using image processing software packages to determine film thickness and temperature profile at different circumferential angles ranging from 10o to 170o and at tube impingement height of 5 mm. Film thickness over the horizontal plain tube was taken at different flow rates in the range of 0.5 - 2 lpm. Measured film temperatures and film thicknesses were compared with simulation results and numerical correlations available in the literature and found to be in good agreement.
