Abstract

This paper aims to find the potential for decreasing system temperatures of the district heating network at Kassel University. The district heating network as well as many of the supplied buildings were constructed in the 1980s. Embedded in the development of an overall concept to decarbonize the heat supply on the university’s campus the department of technical building equipment is evolving a methodology to estimate the contribution of supply temperature reduction. This research includes the systematically investigation of the highest possible supply temperature decrease without impairing the buildings’ heat supply. The methodology includes three steps: 1. Identification of the critical buildings; 2. Identification of the critical heating circuits in the critical buildings; 3. Identification of the critical rooms in the critical heating circuits.
