Abstract

This paper aims to find an approach to reduce temperature levels in a district heating subgrid and supplied buildings at a University Campus in Kassel . The Campus consists mostly of non-residential buildings with high building supply temperatures, the district heating network was built in the 1980s. Consequently, there is a need for structured renovation to achieve higher energy efficiency, better integration of renewable energy sources and therefore lower greenhouse gas emissions. Methodically, two different methods for identifying temperature reduction potentials will be used to determine where to start when transforming to low temperature supply. The two ranking methods excess flow method and kappa method will be introduced and discussed. The main idea is to show two viewpoints from different technical fields, the district heating network and the heating circuit of the building and figuring out differences and similarities between the two.
