Cost Effective Energetic Refurbishment of Office Buildings in Norway
Abstract
The energy consumption of an existing office building, built in 2001 in Trondheim in Norway has been monitored over a period of several years. It shows a total specific average energy use of 188 kWh/(m2a). During the next couple of years Norway is planning to tighten the building regulations with regard to heating losses, net energy demand, delivered energy, and share of renewable energy sources. Thus it was important to estimate the measures of different refurbishment strategies. Here, cost efficiency was of major concern as also pointed out by Norwegian authorities and contrasted with additional information about CO2 emission reductions. The measured office building was simulated using advanced building performance software and validated with measurements. Then, the energy savings of different refurbishment strategies were estimated. The results show the potential of the different measures. Potential energy savings were directly evaluated by cost effectiveness and resulted in maximum investment costs that can be spent. This was contrasted with linked information about CO2 reductions. A sensitivity analysis of economic parameters was performed.
