Microwave Desorption for Flexible Sorption-Heat Storage Application

Abstract

The technical desorption process is contingent upon the nature of the sorption material and the energy source, which may be surplus photovoltaic (PV) energy or other fluctuating sources utilised for heat storage. Processes that permit the flexible regulation of material throughput while maintaining a constant degree of desorption would be optimal. Microwave processes facilitate rapid and efficient desorption, but they must be adapted to the material in order to ensure process safety and to prevent material degradation. It has been demonstrated that microwave technology can achieve comparable or superior drying efficiency and good variability of the test procedure in comparison to conventional drying technology.
