Abstract

This work analyzes a photovoltaic (PV) solar pumping system that uses solar energy to power water pumps, promoting the use of renewable sources and reducing maintenance requirements. In Uruguay, where livestock and agriculture are key economic sectors, this technology represents an efficient energy alternative for irrigation and livestock water supply, especially in rural areas with limited access to the electrical grid. PV water pumping offers a sustainable solution that reduces dependence on conventional energy sources and aligns with governmental incentives promoting its adoption. The study combines technical data collection with simulation-based analysis using COMPASS 3.1 software for system sizing and performance evaluation. The case study focuses on a solar pumping installation located in Lavalleja, Uruguay, and explores scalability scenarios, highlighting the potential benefits and the contribution of this technology to the development of a more sustainable agricultural sector.
