Abstract

The renewable energy transition is taking reliable steps ahead, Portugal and Chile have been leading this effort and have recently achieved monthly averages above 80% of renewable electricity including more than 3 days in a row operating with 100% electricity. This is a result of long term renewable energy policies and also because of abundant renewable energy resources in both countries. However, without enough storage capabilities, the waste of renewable energy is also a reality and should be investigated more in depth. The amount of energy that needs to be stored is investigated and as well as the discussion of the risk of grid instability in case asynchronos generation continous to increase.
