Abstract

This study assesses the feasibility of off-grid solar PV integrated with second-life EV batteries (SLBs) to address energy deficits in remote regions like the Amazon. We evaluated the techno-economic viability of this circular approach via modelling, TCO analysis, and empirical business model development in Amazonian communities. Results confirm technical suitability (up to 12-year lifespan) and significant long-term cost advantages over diesel (approx. 3-year break-even). Viable 'Bottom of the Pyramid' (BoP) business models necessitate leveraging circular efficiency and multi-stakeholder collaboration. The research provides empirical support for SLBs in BoP contexts and offers policy insights (e.g., subsidy redirection, regulation) for advancing sustainable energy access (SDG 7).
